In 2024 the Word Birds went Out on a Limb to publish a collection of 36 stories by the same name. We were delighted and emboldened by the positive feedback and success of the book. Every month each of the nine group members writes about 1,000 words to a given prompt. Around a dining room table (coffee, tea and rock buns in hand) we take turns to read our stories aloud. There are laughs and tears, gasps of surprise at a beautiful or moving description, amazement at an unexpected end or a clever take on the topic. Each of us has a distinctive writing style that will be evident in this new collection of 54 short stories across many genres. We hope they will delight the readers and inspire them to try their own hand at writing.
